5. Bill Russell
ELEVEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Some say Bill Russell is actually the best basketball player of all time, and when you look at the amount of winning he did, it’s not as crazy as it sounds.
Russell holds the record for the most championships won by an athlete in a North American sports league with ELEVEN. During his 13 year career, he won 11 times….
He did have the luxury of playing with numerous NBA Hall of Famers, with teammates including, Bob Cousy, John Havlicek, Sam Jones and under the coaching of the legendary Red Auerbach.
B Russ wrapped up his career with averages of 15 points, 22 rebounds, 4 assists per game
The one knock on Russell, if there is one, is that when he joined the league there were 8 teams in the NBA. The mixture of talent and players from then and more recent years, are miles away.
But Russel is still a Five time MVP – ELEVEN time champ
Bill Russell is one of the Greatest NBA players of all time, and could be higher on the list
4. Wilt Chamberlin
For many years, Wilt was by far the best basketball player that anyone had ever seen or heard of. He was the definition of dominant.
A 7 time NBA scoring champion (1960–1966)
11 time NBA rebounds leader (1960–1963, 1966–1969, 1971–1973)
4 time MVP (1960, 1966–1968)
His lack of winning is what makes him the second best big man of all time, but his stats are undeniable. Wilt was known as a personal stats guy and everyone knows about the night he dropped a hundo. (100 pts)
The Stilt is the only player to average more than 40 and 50 points in a season. Chamberlain is the only player in NBA history to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game in a season, something he accomplished seven times. Wilt also is the only player to average at least 30 points and 20 rebounds per game for his NBA career
Wilt ended his career with averages of 30 points, 23 rebounds and 4 assists per gameStill 5th all time in points
1st in all time boards
Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978
