Tough L to take as a Yankees fan.
Sox won 108!

I don’t really think the Yanks stood a chance in a potential game 5 in Fenway. But it woulda been nice to see. The fact is the Red Sox and Astros are, and have been all year, the best two teams in baseball. The Yankees got outscored 20-4! At home! That’s unbelievable and pathetic. Yankees were underdogs going into the series and rightfully so. But before this series the world just saw the Yanks slap the (kinda feel bad for) A’s team, that seems to never win a playoff game. And it felt like then, they had a shot against Boston.
Tight Game 1
Great win game 2. This is also when it felt like the Momentum was swinging in NYs favor. But the fact that the Yankees started their “Ace” Severino, in game 3 and got dominated, with probably the most embarrassing NYY post season loss ever? That you cannot recover from.
Then to try and shake that off and just get 5 runs at home to win a game. And they couldn’t.
I didn’t like the move at the time and Stanton was atrocious. Leaving a ton of guys in scoring position. Non-stop K’ing. It’s going to be tough to have Judge and Stanton near each other in the lineup, having them in the same inning. Both whiffing possibly 200+ times a year. Judge was the only guy hitting on the team and he’s a legit superstar. But Stanton is now just in the way. Plays the same position as Judge and basically just takes up the DH slot daily. Clearly (maybe the worst defensive catcher in baseball) Sanchez could use a break behind the plate in that DH spot throughout the year too. Stanton was bad this series, but again it was his first playoff series ever and the guy has probably never played in bigger games in his life before that series. So I’ll cut him a little slack because he could show up in the future. Arod struggled for a few early post seasons too. Severino is not a post season pitcher, but few are. Sale Porcello and Price combined for zero playoff wins until Sale got the W in game 1.
End of the day, the Yankees were just not good enough. Solid lineup, that choked at home in the playoffs. But 100 wins is never a bad year.
I think the Astros are bound to repeat anyway. And no shot Yanks win game 5 in Boston.
We’re on to Football Season.
