4 point underdogs the Eagles win
Brady didnt get sacked until the late strip sack in the 4th, but he was knocked down a million times. Seemed like on every other play he was on the ground. The Pats lines on both sides of the ball had a bad game. Defensive line could not get any pressure or sacks on backup Foles. James Harrison was let go for a reason, he’s old and washed up. Had no effect on the game at all. If you look back on old Patriot winning teams they always had a pass rusher that could make a play. Weather it was Chandler Jones, Rob Ninkovich, Wilfork or even Chris Long. This year the pass rush for the Pats was flat out Bad.
Brady hasssss to catch that ball. He short arms it and it hits him right in the hands. Amendola is throwing that ball on the run about to get hit! Don’t tell me that pass isn’t right where it needs to be. Thrown by a wideout! Also on 3rd down and a conversion there would have been huge.
Foles has better hands then Brady
The most total yards in any NFL game EVER. Crazy stat.
Brady had 500 yards passing. 1 drop, zero catches.
Foles makes the call for the ‘Philly Special’ on 4th and goal right before halftime, and Doug Pederson has the stones to say okay, run that crazy trick play instead of taking the 3 and lead on the Pats in the 1st half.
People in New England are bitching about why Malcolm Butler did not play in the game on defense a single play. Rowe seemed to be targeted and on the first Alshon Jeffrey TD, although he was in good position, the newly starting backup did give up the TD. Then on the 3rd down late in the first half when Foles throws the swing to Clement, multiple DB’s are whiffing on tackles and Clement ends up scrambling for 40 yards. That play gets the Eagles from their own 30 to inside the New England 20.
Malcolm Jenkins had a good day on defense although not much defense was played. The hit on Cooks was clean and a game changer knocking one of their top receivers out of the game early. He reminds me of a guy making the Hall, Brian Dawkins.
2nd Half
Gronk only had 1 catch in the first half. He had 4 in the opening drive of the 1st half, including the TD at the end of that drive. Belichek is known for halftime adjustments and one you noticed right from the start of the 3rd is, Feed Gronk.
Three 75 yard drives by the Pats in the 2nd half.
The referees throughout the game had a bunch of sketchy calls. Throughout the season, e.g Jesse James catch, Golden Tate catch, the process of the catch had been picked apart and it seemed almost impossible to get a call for a TD to stand if any part of the ball moves throughout the catch. After Gronk’s opening TD, Clement catches another dime from Foles and that to my eyes was still not a catch. If this game was a regular season there is zero chance that TD stands. But I think the NFL smartened up and specifically told the refs not mess around with overturning TDs on the goaline because they had already done that and changed the entire AFC playoff standings (Jesse f**king James catch)
Zach Ertz made countless, clutch, chains-moving catches throughout the entire game. Catching late TDs, 4th and shorts on your own side of the field, he had a great day. On the last TD Ertz scores, also a controversial catch, Matt Patricia (new Lions head coach) said the Pats needed to double Ertz. He was 100% correct. Eagles send a guy in motion to pull the double team away, left 1-on-1 all alone against not Malcolm Butler, Foles delivers again.
Brady strip sacked with a little over 2 minutes.
The Pats finallyyyy get off the field on a 3 and out, only giving up a short FG .
Terrible call doing the gimmick return and they get pinned inside the 10!
It was a rare thing to see Bill Belichek have a bad game in the Super Bowl but he did. Pederson was aggresive and Philly deserved to win this game, and beat the Patriots with a backup QB.
See ya next year Tom.
